In the Congo: Caring for survivors of rape

Dr. Denis Mukwege, a 2018 Nobel Peace Prize recipient and longtime Jewish World Watch partner, is making preparations to deploy a rapid response mission to the remote Fizi territory of South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, funded through your support. Multiple militia groups in recent days attacked civilians in this region. A recent assessment confirmed 75 cases of rape, but the numbers are likely much higher. Dr. Mukwege’s rapid response team will travel to Fizi to offer comprehensive, holistic medical care, provide psychosocial assistance, collect forensic evidence to assist with legal efforts to bring perpetrators to justice and try to assess the active armed groups in the area to determine how best to
protect civilians from future sexual violence.

This emergency expedition is a prime example of the “guerrilla humanitarian” work that JWW is primed to support. Working with visionary local partners, we can quickly bring life-saving aid to hard-to-reach communities.

Your support will allow hope to spread throughout the Congo.

Our efforts in the Congo are just some of the many programs, advocacy and projects that compose JWW’s work every day, both locally and abroad. Allowing us to inspire people of all faiths and cultures to join the ongoing fight against genocide and to bring help and healing to survivors of mass atrocities around the globe, your donation will be used where and when it is most needed.

When combined with those of other donors, your gift to Jewish World Watch can help change the story for survivors of today’s genocides and mass atrocities in Sudan, Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and China and for the Rohingya in refugee camps in Bangladesh and the Darfuris in Chad.
