Congo: Returning abducted children to childhood

Tens of thousands of children have been abducted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and forced to serve in militias. Jewish World Watch is helping to secure the release of these boys and girls, many of whom are being used as child soldiers and sex slaves. During the month of June alone, thanks to your support and the efforts of our partners in the Congo, 167 boys and 24 girls were rescued from armed militia groups. Our amazing partners risked their own lives to save these children — just one part of an extraordinary effort to stop the war machine of mass atrocities that has plagued the Congo for far too long.

Once the children reach the safety of our partners’ facilities, each child receives psychological assistance and help in trying to reunite with his or her family. When reunification is not possible, the children remain housed with our partners, where they are able to attend school. They also receive continued psychological support and skills training so they can one day become self-sufficient. The aim is to rehabilitate these youths and motivate them to help ensure a peaceful future for the Congo.

Your support will allow hope to spread throughout the Congo.

Our efforts in the Congo are just some of the many programs, advocacy and projects that compose JWW’s work every day, both locally and abroad. Allowing us to inspire people of all faiths and cultures to join the ongoing fight against genocide and to bring help and healing to survivors of mass atrocities around the globe, your donation will be used where and when it is most needed.

When combined with those of other donors, your gift to Jewish World Watch can help change the story for survivors of today’s genocides and mass atrocities in Sudan, Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and China and for the Rohingya in refugee camps in Bangladesh and the Darfuris in Chad.
