This morning, the Biden Administration formally announced its determination that the Myanmar military committed genocide against the Rohingya people. Jewish World Watch applauds Secretary of State Antony Blinken for this decision.
“Beyond the Holocaust, the United States has concluded that genocide was committed seven times,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. “Today marks the eighth as I have determined that members of the Burmese military committed genocide and crimes against humanity against Rohingya.”
The thousands of letters sent to Blinken’s office by Jewish World Watch helped make this happen. Our collective voice applied pressure on our leaders to take action for the Rohingya people – thank you for your meaningful efforts on this issue.
This vital decision is just the beginning. The U.S. must now ramp up the pressure on the Myanmar military junta and bring those responsible for these heinous acts to justice.
The BURMA Act will apply crucial sanctions against the military and provide direct humanitarian assistance to the Myanmar people.
Send a letter to your Congressional representatives and let them know the passage of this bill cannot wait – even if you have reached out previously. The people of Myanmar cannot wait – we must use the momentum of today’s announcement to make a difference.
