500 days of war in Tigray

Today marks 500 days since violence in the Tigray region began. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives, and more than 6.8 million need food aid.

While the international attention is on the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine, it is easy to lose sight of atrocities occurring in so many places worldwide. These conflicts do not happen in a vacuum. The Ukraine crisis could lead to a 22% increase in food costs that will directly impact Tigray’s ongoing famine.

Aid workers need fuel and road access to deliver food to those starving and medical supplies to women subjected to sexual violence.

As these crises worsen, improved diplomatic engagement with international powers is crucial. The world must establish strict, uniform conditions to remove sanctions on Ethiopia if the government allows unfettered humanitarian access.
