House calls Myanmar military’s actions against Rohingya genocide

The House of Representatives declared Rohingya crisis in Burma/Myanmar a genocide.  What we’ve been calling genocide for months has finally been recognized as such by the U.S. House!  In a roll call vote on H. Res. 1091, the representatives voted 394 Yay, 1 Nay, and 37 abstained.  A powerful statement of near unanimity, proving once again that the issue of genocide and mass atrocity is bi-partisan!

Even when the two political parties of our government can’t agree on many things, they are not standing idly by in the face of clear-cut genocide, and we applaud these lawmakers and YOU for helping to make this crucial designation happen!  Special thanks to our local Representatives Ed Royce, Brad Sherman, and Adam Schiff for co-sponsoring this crucial resolution! Let’s hope that it leads to increased U.S. involvement in responding to the needs of the Rohingya refugees, guaranteeing their safe return, repatriation, and reintegration, and holding the masterminds and perpetrators of the genocide accountable.
