Global Soul is a night of Leadership, Legacy and Activism celebrating members of the community dedicated to fighting genocide and mass atrocities.
This year’s Global Soul Award honoree is Nury Turkel, Chair of the United States Commission of International Religious Freedom and Hudson Institute Fellow, and the Schulweis Legacy Award recipients are Jane Z. Cohen and Diana Buckhantz.
The inspiring event will take place on the set of the New York City streets on the Warner Bros. Studios backlot in Burbank, CA.

Global Soul Award
Nury Turkel
Chair of the United States Commission of International Religious Freedom & Hudson Institute Fellow
Nury is a Washington, D.C.-based lawyer and author of “NO ESCAPE.” Turkel is a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute, Co-founder and Chair of the Uyghur Human Rights Project.
Since June 2022, Nury has served as the Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, having been reappointed by Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in May of 2022 for a two-year term. He has testified before the U.S. Congress, speaking about Uyghur internment camps and advocating a legislative response to China’s atrocities. His policy recommendations have been incorporated into U.S. laws and pending bills relating to Uyghurs and China.
In 2020, he was on TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World list, and in 2021, he was listed as one of Fortune’s 50 Greatest Leaders. In June 2021, he received the inaugural Notre Dame Prize for Religious Liberty.

Diana runs her family foundation, the Vladimir and Araxia Buckhantz Foundation, which focuses on issues around runaway and homeless youth, arts education in the schools, aging, reproductive rights, and women’s empowerment projects in Eastern Congo and Chad. Diana also produces and is currently developing a new musical.
Highlighted by a long career at the American Cancer Society, Jane has
had a 46-year career in Marketing Communication, Program Management and Nonprofit Leadership. Jane has designed and supported public health efforts in underserved communities, notably collaborating with representatives of urban Native American communities.
