The High Holidays present us with the time and space to act with more intention, in Hebrew\u00a0<em>kavanah<\/em>. \u00a0<br \/><br \/>Between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we let go of the ways we\u2019ve tripped and landed far from the values we hold ourselves to. \u00a0As a physical act, we throw our \u201csins\u201d in the form of bread crumbs into bodies of water to be swept away. \u00a0<br \/><br \/>During Yom Kippur, we stand together in community, calling out to the universe, swearing we will be better. The\u00a0<em>Al Het<\/em>\u00a0prayer gives us the road map of what\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0to do, but if we truly want to work towards a more just world, we have to choose to take action to cultivate that world more actively.<br \/><br \/>It isn\u2019t enough to not have a hardened heart. We must\u00a0<strong>open our hearts<\/strong>\u00a0and our minds\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.votervoice.net\/JWW\/campaigns\/85628\/respond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to protect our Tigrayan families<\/a>.<br \/><br \/>It isn\u2019t enough to not stand idly by while others are dehumanized. We must\u00a0<strong>bear witness<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.votervoice.net\/JWW\/campaigns\/85906\/respond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to the atrocities being perpetrated against our Uyghur cousins<\/a>.<br \/><br \/>It isn\u2019t enough to not be inclined to do evil.
