Following an extensive and thorough search process, the Board of Directors of Jewish World Watch extends an enthusiastic welcome to our new Executive Director, Serena Oberstein!<\/strong>\u00a0Serena has a rich and varied background leading social justice agencies, managing nonprofit operations, serving as Los Angeles City Ethics Commission President and as Special Assistant to the Mayor of Los Angeles, and consulting on nonprofits’ strategic growth and capacity building. Her vision and passion for the mission of JWW caused her to stand out in a field of exceptionally well-qualified candidates. As we celebrate four years of accomplishments by retiring Executive Director Susan Freudenheim, and wish her much fulfillment and joy, we know that Serena will take us to new heights. Meet Serena Oberstein, Jewish World Watch\u2019s New Executive Director<\/h3>\n

Serena Oberstein, longtime community leader and former president of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, is set to become the new executive director of Jewish World Watch (JWW), the L.A.-based nonprofit that fights genocide\u00a0and mass atrocities worldwide through advocacy, education and programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Oberstein will take up her new position on Aug. 3, replacing current Executive Director Susan Freudenheim, who is retiring from the position she has held since 2016. Freudenheim, a former executive editor of the Jewish Journal, will be on hand to assist in the transition through Aug. 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am thrilled to pass the mantle to Serena, whose heartfelt and proven commitment to making the world better for all people is at the core of JWW\u2019s mission,\u201d Freudenheim said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to build on the great work JWW has already done,\u201d Oberstein told the Journal in a joint Zoom interview with Freudenheim. \u201cSusan created stability in the organization. I want to be more strategic and systematic \u2026 about the growth of the organization as a whole.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
