The crisis in Syria and the suffering of the Syrian people shocks the conscience. While the crisis will not be solved tomorrow, the world can step up and help those who are fleeing violence and oppression. As President Obama said during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, “There are no easy answers to Syria…But so many families need help right now; they don’t have time.”
That is why we are calling on the United States government to increase the number of Syrian refugees resettled in the United States. The United States can and should do more.
Raising Our Voice
- In a recent letter, JWW joined more than 400 signatories from the interfaith community to call on the US government to take further action. The letter powerfully states, “Today, with more than four million Syrian refugees fleeing violence and persecution, the United States has an ethical obligation as a world leader to reduce this suffering and generously welcome Syrian refugees into our country.”
- In a New Year message, JWW’s Board of Directors called on our activist community to ask President Obama to open our doors to more besieged Syrian refugees.
- JWW has set up an emergency fund for Syrian refugees. We will use this fund to support credible partner organizations that are providing emergency aid to Syrian refugees on the ground.
