Great news! Thanks to the work of atrocities prevention advocates like you, Congress is standing up for the Syrian and Congolese people. This week The House of Representatives passed:
- The Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act of 2016 (H.R.5732): A bill that seeks to help “halt the wholesale slaughter of the Syrian people, encourage a negotiated political settlement, and hold Syrian human rights abusers accountable for their crimes.”
[break]
- H.Res.780: A Resolution calling for sanctions against the Congolese government officials close to President Kabila if the President does not step down from power, and if the government continues to violate human rights.
The emails you sent and phone calls you made to your Representatives had an impact! Your voices were heard and action was taken. That’s advocacy, and that’s how we make change! More still needs to be done, but these two actions by Congress are a start.
An important part of advocacy is positive reinforcement. Thanking your Representatives for taking action is just as important as encouraging them to take action. Click below to thank your Representative for taking action.
