Jewish World Watch applauds Canada for Uyghur resettlement vote

This week, members of the Canadian Parliament stood up for human rights by unanimously passing M62. The motion calls on the Canadian government to accept 10,000 Uyghurs and other Turkic minorities fleeing persecution in China.

The Jewish community has a profound understanding of the importance of acceptance of others. We know the unthinkable ramifications of being denied refuge.

Since the motion is non-binding, Jewish World Watch urges Prime Minister Trudeau and Immigration Minister Sean Fraser to swiftly implement any necessary additional measures to support Uyghur resettlement.

The Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of the Uyghur people and other Turkic minorities is not limited to its country’s borders. There is a network of surveillance that spans the globe. Those seeking safety need immediate action.

We applaud Canada’s leadership. This action by the Canadian Parliament should serve as a shining example for governments that have acknowledged the ongoing Uyghur genocide and for those who claim to support human rights worldwide.
