Today, 120 members of Congress called on President Obama to make Sudan a foreign policy priority, hold Sudanese leaders accountable, and protect civilians from ongoing violence. Among other recommendations, the bipartisan letter included a request to enhance the current sanctions regime to target high-level officials in Sudan, and to counter gold as a major source of funding for the Sudanese government.

We also want to thank the co-chairs of the bipartisan Sudan and South Sudan Caucus, Representatives: Michael McCaul, Mike Capuano, Barbara Lee, and Jeff Fortenberry, for their leadership on Sudan issues.

We hope that this demonstration of support for the people of Sudan will highlight the continued violent oppression by the Sudanese government, and push President Obama to take stronger action to end Khartoum’s reign of terror.
